Coping and emotion regulation in response to social stress tasks among young adolescents with and without social anxiety

Given that threat appraisal and coping are amenable to intervention, we aimed identify appraisals responses of anxious adolescents, relative less peers, during induced social stressors. Adolescents (N = 76; Mage 13.5yrs) completed a clinical interview five stress tasks. After each task, measured (state anxiety evaluation), general ability, eight ways regulating emotion. with high appraised more used distraction, behavioral disengagement rumination. As adolescents progressed through tasks, decreased, perceived ability increased, problem-solving, rumination decreased. Social level × task interactions were not significant.
